The country's business center and the capital city with the most densely populated area per capita. San Jose Costa Rica is also the capital of the Province of San Jose. The central government of Costa Rica has its main offices in San Jose and it is from here that the different branches of government administer the country Costa Rica.

San Jose, Costa Rica is located at an altitude of 1.170 meters above sea level and is located in the central valley which is surrounded by beautiful mountains and majestic volcanoes. The temperature ranges between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. As always the nights are a bit cooler. San Jose collects an annual rainfall of approximately 2200 mm and the wettest months are May, September, October and November. The rest of the year is very sunny and few days have very short showers.

The capital is bordered to the north by San Antonio de Belen, Santo Domingo (Heredia Province), Goicoechea, Tibás (Province of San Jose), the eastern borders are Curridabat Montes de Oca and Curridabat and to the south with Desamparados, Alajuelita, and to the south with the well known and much visited by tourists interested in retiring in Costa Rica the canton of Escazú.

Costa Rica, one of the most consolidated democracies of America, has maintained a stable political environment, despite the economic and social difficulties of the past two decades. Costa Rica won worldwide recognition, having been the first country to abolish the army on 1 December 1948. Its' Human Development Index, one of the best in Latin America, places it in fourth place behind Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. Costa Rica ranks fifth worldwide as classified by the Environmental Performance Index 2008.
